氾濫原・河川の自然再生事業に関するセミナーの案内（Announcement of a seminar about River Restoration)

国際シンポジウム” Long-term monitoring for forest environment under the changing climate”に合わせて来日されるDr. Stan Gregory（オレゴン州立大学・名誉教授）を迎え、氾濫原・河川の自然再生事業に関するセミナーを開催します。

日時：2019年12月6日（金）10時30分～12時　（45分ほどの講演と質疑応答）

I would like to announce an exciting seminar about river restoration.

We invite Dr. San Gregory, a professor from Oregon State University. He has been leading many research projects, involving riparian and stream ecology. He will give a talk about river and floodplain restoration of a large river. The seminar will be at Ito campus on December 6^th.

He is visiting the Kyushu University in the week of December 2^nd, and in addition to his research talk on December 6^th, he will be giving a keynote speech at the symposium titled “Long-term monitoring for forest environment under the changing climate” on December 4^th.

The seminar will be held with the following detail:

Date: December 6 (Fri), 2019, 10:30-12:00 (about 45 minutes talk and question period)

Place: West building No. 5, room 229

Language: English

This seminar is a good opportunity to listen and discuss the issues related to restoration of riparian forest and stream ecosystem in a large river.

生態水文学実習・森林生態学特論 宮崎演習林で開催！

9月の最後の週、生態水文学実習・森林生態学特論の実習を宮崎演習林で開催しました。いつもは福岡演習林でやるのですが、今年は宮崎でやってみましたよ！

今年は土壌浸食をテーマに実習を行いました。初めてのテーマかつ初めての場所だったため、段取りが悪いことが多々ありましたが、参加学生さんの素晴らしいサポートにより、今年もとても中味の濃い実習を行うことができました。今年は、新潟大の学生さんも参加してくれましたよ。

KEWの研究者が宮崎演習林と福岡演習林に来ました！

九大演習林は、Millennium seed bank project という種子を収集するKEWのプロジェクトのメンバーになっています。というわけで、KEWの研究者とKEWの訪問研究者をしている楠本さん（@BuntarouKusumo1）が福岡と椎葉に来てくれましたよ～

5月の白い花たち

5月、椎葉の山は春真っ盛り。白い花たちがたくさんいました。

エゴノキ。官舎横の駐車場に咲いていました。
たくさんの花を下向きにつけているので、とても観察しやすいです。
エゴノキ科エゴノキ属。
森の中でもたくさん咲いていました。

スイカズラ。
スイカズラ科スイカズラ属。
常緑木本のつる。
事務所の周りにたくさん咲いていました。

ユキノシタ。
ユキノシタ科ユキノシタ属。
こないだユキノシタの葉の天ぷらを食べましたが、
とても美味しかったです！
このあたりでは、道路の脇などでたくさん咲いています。
可憐～～！
栄養繁殖できるみたいです。だから群生してるのね～

マツバウツギ。
アジサイ科ウツギ属。
ユキノシタ科と思っていましたが、アジサイ科に変わったみたい。
道路沿いでよく見かけるので、とても目立ちます。綺麗～～！

もう6月になってしまいました。この花たちに会えるのはまた1年後かと思うと寂しいですね～～
ユキノシタはまだ大量に咲いているけれども、、、

春先の森の様子

 4月3日、宮崎演習林の教員3人で森の様子を見に行ってきました。宮崎といえど、宮崎演習林は標高が1000m以上に位置する森が多く、針広混合林が広がっているのです。なので、4月と言えど、まだ森は静かなのですが、本格的な春にむけて準備まっただなかな様子でした。

アセビの花が満開です。
すごく小さい個体でも花をつけていました。
宮崎演習林ではシカが下層植生を食べてしまい、今残っているのはおもにアセビとシキミです。
アセビとシキミは葉に毒があるので、シカがあまり食べないみたいです。
アセビの森が広がっています。

竹林でイングロースコア設置

年末の寒い日に、福岡演習林内の竹林にイングロースコアを設置してきました。ここの竹林はいわゆる管理がされていない放棄竹林で、稈密度は約1万本/ヘクタールあります。とっても密度が高いのです。しかも、倒れた枯死稈もたくさんあって、斜面も急なので、行くだけでもとっても疲れます。そんな中、研究室のみなさんに手伝ってもらい、イングロースコアを埋めてききました。イングロースコアは細根生産量を測定するもので、筒状の網に根っこの入っていない土を詰めて埋めておき、1年後に回収し、網の中に入っている根っこを計測して、細根生産量を推定します。これを5つの斜面位置に作ったプロットごとに6個埋めてきました。作業のハイライトは、なんといっても土を取るためのハンマー打ちです。これをほとんど、我らが誇る院生男子2名でやってくれました。本当に、頼りになります～！！

たまに若手女子がやってみる。
調査は力仕事が意外に多いのです。
